Berberine is a bioactive alkaloid renowned for its ability to lower blood sugar. After consumption, berberine is transported through the bloodstream to the cells where it binds to several molecular targets and changes their function. In particular, berberine is able to decrease insulin resistance, boost glycolysis, and decrease sugar production in the liver.
